Welcome to our newest coordinator :: Noelle
I'd like to officially welcome Noelle to the Amy Nixon Events family!
Last year Noelle successfully completed our summer internship, and since our business is growing we have brought her permanently on staff as a coordinator. Kim & Mike's wedding this past weekend was her first Amy Nixon Events wedding on her own, and she did a fabulous job!
We're so happy to have a talent like Noelle on our team, and we look forward to many more weddings to come!

Congratulations Kim & Mike
Kim & Mike's wedding took place this past weekend in Sandusky at the Sunnybrook Trout Club. They booked all 10 rooms of the bed & breakfast for themselves and the wedding party to stay at, and held the ceremony and reception on the grounds as well.
The ceremony was held under the gazebo behind the bed & breakfast, and the reception in a large white tent just off to the side. Guests gathered in a semi-circle around the gazebo to watch Kim & Mike exchange their vows, and then everyone moved to the tent for cocktail hour, dinner and dancing.
This wedding was full of personal touches from the bride. The blue and green table runners were all hand made by the bride, as were the strawberry jam favors for the guests.
Best wishes to the happy newlyweds!

Congratulations Molly & TJ!
This was such a super fun wedding! We traveled down to Columbus and stayed at the Renaissance hotel for the entire weekend. The majority of the wedding party was from out of state, so this was a destination wedding for almost everyone in attendance!
The ceremony was held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in downtown Columbus, which happens to be the oldest church in the state. The reception was in the Olympian Ballroom at the Columbus Athenaeum, a gorgeous landmark building which is also located downtown, just a few blocks from the church. The cocktail hour was held upstairs in the loft area, overlooking the reception area below. The decor was simple and elegant...black table linens with black chair covers, green and white paper flowers scattered on the tables, and candle centerpieces gave the room a soft romantic glow. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of gerbera daisies, all in a different color, and their partnered groomsman had a boutonniere to match.
There were surprises left and right! During the introductions each couple had come up with their own funny entrance. The bride and her father started out their dance to Somewhere Over The Rainbow, then it abruptly stopped and changed to Gettin Jiggy With It, and then concluded with the Electric Slide, during which they invited everyone else to come out and finish the dance with them. Another great surprise was when TJ went to remove the garter and came up with a rubber chicken, lol. The song chosen for the garter removal was "Hot for Teacher", since Molly is a teacher back home in Virginia.
Congratulations to Molly and TJ - you are truly a special couple, and you have both have such wonderful families. I know you'll have a life full of love and happiness together. Thank you for letting me share in the official beginning of your new life! It was a beautiful occasion, and it was a pleasure working with you!
Also, I have to send a special thanks to Christin Berry (one of my lovely brides from last June) who referred this couple to me.

Design Theme :: Black + White + Damask
In looking over my blog, I noticed a trend of black & white damask in the photos. I had 2 weddings recently with the black & white theme, and I'm seeing it used in every design combination possible. So, I decided to do an inspiration board on it. And change my background. :)
I love that this is popular right now. You can pair any color from the rainbow with black & white damask and it will look fabulous. Hot Pink, Dusty Blue, Gold, Pewter, Orange, Yellow, Green, Purple, Deep Red... your accent color possibilities are endless!

All In The Details :: Shoes ::
Congratulations Candice & Mike!
Our wedding this weekend was really a stunner! The color palette of black & white damask with a touch of green was really amazing, and the location of the reception was absolutely perfect!
The ceremony took place at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton, and was followed by a cocktail hour and reception in the tent at the Catawba Island Club. There was a yacht ice sculpture, the always amazing black & white dance floor, and green mini-champagne bottles at every guest's place setting as a favor.
The tent is lakeside, and just behind the tent is an outdoor sitting area, with beach chairs and fire pits. We lined the walkways with black lanterns, and guests came outside to enjoy the weather and the sunset. The weather looked cloudy most of the day, but the rain held off and the clouds finally cleared, and Candice & Mike were able to get their lake sunset photos after all!
Congratulations to Candice and Mike! Your special day was breathtaking, and what a great group! Everyone was so friendly, including guests and vendors. I'm honored to have been a part of this most important day, and I wish you a lifetime of happiness together!

Tour of Event Source
I rented some linens from Event Source for this weekend's wedding, and I had never used them before. I have seen them at all the local expos I go to and talked to Jim Lottig several times. But, I had never taken the opportunity to use them until I needed a last minute order and my out-of-town supplier couldn't get it here in time.
So, I called Event Source and they had everything I needed. I was able to pick it up the next day, and it was in great condition. I didn't get a box with linens tossed in it, like other places I've rented from. These linens were cleaned, pressed, on hangers, and in a dry-cleaning bag to protect them during transit. They also gave me a bag to return the used linens in. It was nice not to have to cram them back into the same box they came in, and ship it back out.
I was impressed that they went that far with the services for a last minute order of only 3 linens. Ron took me on a tour of the facility while I was there, and their whole operation is impressive. Everything in the warehouse is organized and easily accessible. I even snapped a few photos of the showroom while I was there, to share on my blog. If you're in the event business and ever have a need for rental equipment, I highly suggest visiting the showroom at Event Source. It will amaze you!

My Birthday Party
My birthday turned out fabulous! I was so happy to see my new friends from Cleveland who came to celebrate with me. We did a "Black & White" theme, where all the guests wore black & white and all the decor was black & white. The dessert table was full of black & white desserts, and the bar had 6 specialty drinks that were black & white. The weather was beautiful, and we got to hang out on the patio and watch the sunset over the lake. Turning 30 wasn't so bad after all! :)

Shelly Theiling :: Makeup Artist
I met a fabulous makeup artist a few weeks ago at a wedding we did together. Actually, I didn't meet her that day, but the bride raved about her so much that I wanted to meet with her afterwards to exchange info and hopefully use her services again in the future. We had a nice lunch together at TGI Fridays this week, where I was able to pick up some of her business cards and view her portfolio. She comes recommended by the MAC cosmetics store in Crocker Park, and she will travel to any wedding location (not just in the Cleveland area, either).
If you're looking for a great makeup artist for your wedding, prom, or other special event, give Shelly Theiling a call at (216) 337-2598 or email her at stmakeupartist@hotmail.com.
