My sincere apologies for neglecting this blog for the past week! In addition to my daily list of to-do's for my coming events, I have the new task of PACKING and MOVING! Yes, we will be moving to a new location in Avon Lake (a great location right on 83!) from August 3rd through August 9th. Things my be a bit slow during this process, but I promise once we get settled in I'll be posting so much so fast that you won't be able to keep up! :)
I've always had a home office, but now I'll have a HUGE home office, on-site storage for all of our rental items (yes, ALL of them! No more outside storage!), and plenty of work space for my large custom flower orders and custom decor orders. I'm really looking forward to posting some pictures of our new space once we get set up!

DIY :: Mini Cake Favors
Supplies you'll need:
Powdered sugar
Sifter
Skewers or toothpicks
Plain round cutters, various sizes
Chocolate sheet cake or brownie sheet, 1" deep
Step 1:
Whether it's made from scratch or your friend Betty Crocker, bake your cake flat in a shallow sheet pan so it only rises up to an inch. Once cool, trim the top with a serrated knife using a sawing motion to form an even, flat surface. This will be flipped over, so don't worry about imperfections!
Step 2:
Both brownies and cake work well, but with the latter you will have to be more careful to achieve clean edges. Carefully twist the round cutters into the sheet cake with desired sizes for each tier. For this example, we used 1.25", 2.5", and 3.5" cutters.
Step 3:
Assemble the tiers on top of each other, with the flattest surface facing up (usually the bottom-side of the cake). Insert toothpick to secure tiers together. If using skewers, measure against the assembled mini cake, and trim a few millimeters short of the full height so it doesn't protrude.
Step 4:
Lightly dust cakes with powdered sugar. Wrap, and enjoy!

Video :: Cutting a Rug at Engage 09
Cake designer Sylvia Weinstock and Randy Fenoli (from TLC's Say Yes to the Dress and fashion director at Kleinfeld Bridal) enjoying the party at Engage 09. If you watch any wedding TV at all, I'm sure you know who they are! It was quite amusing to see Sylvia cutting loose. :) Love it!

Video :: Wedding Dance
When Molly danced with her father, the song began to "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". All of a sudden, they pulled out sunglasses, the music changed to The Electric Slide and they waved everyone to come out and join them. I thought it was terribly cute and just happened to be walking by with my video camera handy when it happened. :)

Blog Contest!
In the past year we've become increasingly interested in everything about blogging. It's our favorite way to communicate about trends, colors, ideas, events, photos, and everything else pertaining to the wedding industry.
So, in an effort to grow our blogging community, we're having a give-away! Follow our blog, post a comment on this posting and you'll be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card to your favorite restaurant for dinner! Drawing will be held on August 1st. Be sure to follow our blog for future contests!
The contest is open to everyone; vendors, brides, friends, even family! We're not limiting this to Ohio either...our farther-away friends can enter, too! Good luck to all who enter, and we look forward to blogging our little hearts out! :)
To Follow: On your Dashboard page, look for "Reading List". Underneath that, there's a "Blogs I'm Following" tab. You can add your favorite blogs there, and it will show you when they're updated. Just click the "Add" button and type in amynixonevents.blogspot.com - and you're done! :)

Most brides feel overwhelmed when they sit down to begin planning the biggest event of their life. Some hire a planner and don't give worrying another thought. Others aren't able to hire a planner (for any multitude of reasons), and we think they deserve some assistance too!

From setting a budget, to hiring vendors, to coordinating everything on wedding day, we'll give you the tools you need to ensure your perfect wedding day details! Each bride receives a gift bag including GREAT discount certificates and samples from several local vendors, local wedding publications, a coupon for a free meal at Buca di Beppo and more!
Plus we're having a drawing for a $30 gift card to Dave & Buster's courtesy of Perfect Wedding Guide!

Fourth of July Inspiration
Here's a great Fourth of July wedding I came across on TheKnot:
"The couple kept their engagement a secret for a week before telling Kelsey's family at her parents' Fourth of July barbeque in Key West. The happy occasion inspired the couple's red, white and blue wedding colors. The bride's other inspiration: The vintage carnival scene in the movie The Notebook."
